The Apollo collection was designed as a tribute to NASA's Apollo 11 moon landing mission, now this line-up extends with a downsized version in stainless steel, which is improved upon the original model Apollo 1.0 with several subtle updates and enhancements. Aside from the smaller case size, the rest of the new Apollo closely follows the design elements of the original model. This means that the new models feature flat sapphire crystals protecting their dials, solid screw-down stainless steel case backs, and iconic crowns at 4 o'clock position. The new models are available in five different dial colors, featuring the predecessor's core design with a two-layer sandwich-style construction that has cut-outs and recessed areas for the hour markers. Additionally, the black variants with DLC coating are available as an option.
The overall design of Apollo draws inspiration from space exploration by using unconventional symbols such as index makers and watch hands in a similar shape to the rocket and spacecraft. This creative design is also accentuated by a screw-down crown at the 4 o’clock position that feels right on this sporty-style dive watch. It works well with the robust case, sandwich dial, and straightforward case back. The maximum legibility and visual hierarchy are showcased by its Sandwich dial. Here, Apollo applies the Super-LumiNova perfectly and enhances the visual effect with dual-color lume schemes in each model. Every aspect of the design is unique and evokes a sense of the future, all while maintaining functionality.
This downsized model translates Apollo 1.0’s distinctive design into a more manageable 39mm X 46mm case size with 11mm thickness. Ten models in total are launched with the new line, including black DLC variants and non-DLC-coated brush-finished stainless steel ones. The DLC (diamond-like carbon) is a gunmetal black-toned coating that offers impressive scratch resistance on top of the base steel material and also gives the watch a handsome dark look to it.
The 316L stainless steel edition is finished with a subtle brush to the main body, ceramic bezel and bracelet. Although the whole watch is fully brushed, there’s a surprising amount of depth and nuance to the finishing. Alongside the brighter and colder tones of stainless steel, the black edition with DLC coating appears cooler, more masculine, and more personal against the high-contrast legible dial. The tapered H-link bracelet is comfortable and good-looking coming with quick-release spring bars and an on-the-fly adjustable clasp. So it is easily resized and quickly interchangeable with the fitted bracelet or strap.
Inside the new Apollo is a Japanese caliber Miyota 9015 automatic movement that holds a strong power reserve and keeps extreme precision. With its 20 ATM water resistance and DLC coating, it is engineered for your toughest adventures.
The newest iterations of the Apollo are the most compact iterations of the Apollo and proved themselves to be up to the challenge by performing well on every expedition. So let’s begin the new adventure with Phoibos Apollo.
